Age 93 of Halifax passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016 at the Veterans Memorial Building VGW. Born in Prospect he was the son of the late Raymond and Anastasia (Coolen) Doherty. Doug was a Veteran of WW11 and served 3 yrs in the RCAF and 22 yrs in the RCN. He worked 10 yrs with DVA following his retirement from the Navy. Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the Cottage on Prospect Bay, fishing, boating, singing and playing his guitar around the bonfire. He and his wife Carmie enjoyed 68 yrs of marriage and spent 10 happy, fun filled winters in Florida with friends.He is survived by his wife Carmella (Jessome) and seven children, Brenda, Doug (Sandra), Graham (Debbie), Barry (Claire), Blaine (Joy), Shawna, Cheryl. Grandchildren, Wade, Brent, Tristun, Lisa, Paige, Payden, Candence, Cleo. Great grandchildren, Rhys, Ronan, Katie Rose and numerous niece and nephews. Doug is predeceased by his brothers Raymond and Jim, sisters Nell and Mary.We would like to thank Dr Macleod and the nursing and support staff of V6W for their care, compassion and devotion to our beloved husband and father over the past three yrs.
