Max DeLong

Age 81, Melvern Square, Annapolis Co., NS, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Facility, Middleton. Born in Woodstock, N.B., he was a son of the late Borden J. and Ruth E. (Barrett) DeLong. Formerly from Woodstock, N.B., he was first a school teacher and later enlisting in Royal Canadian Air Force in the spring of 1961. Max retired as a Navigator, with posting in various placing including Comox, B.C., Summerside, P.E.I. and Greenwood, NS. He became the first air navigator in the western world to achieve 10,000 flight hours on maritime patrol operations and training aircraft. Max mostly flew on Neptune, Argus and Aurora aircraft except his initial hours were on Daks and Bugmashers. He enjoyed building houses and ran an apple orchard for 36 years.

Max had a lot of friends and had a very good life. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Anne “Christine” Young; daughter, Kathleen Roch, Nictaux, NS; son, Brian (Heather Graves) DeLong, Torbrook, NS; grandchildren, Willow, Violet, Blake and Tyler; brothers, Malcolm (Gayle Fox) DeLong, Nackawic, N.B.; Judson (Betsey Fairweather) DeLong, Hampton, N.B; Wayne (Charlotte Farrell) DeLong, Bloomfield, N.B.; sisters, Avis Foster, Landsdowne, N.B.; Iris (Paul) Schriver, Campbellton, N.B.; Ruth (Darrell) Manuel, Moncton, N.B.; sisters-in-law, Margo DeLong, Hartland, N.B.; Juanita DeLong, Woodstock, N.B; 26 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Allison DeLong and Harold DeLong; sister, Barbara Grant; brother-in-law, Wayne Foster.
