Shelia Davis

Sheila Marie passed away in Victoria on August 10, 2018. She was born in Calgary on April 15, 1926, the second child of Olga Larson and Col. J. Fred Scott, OBE, QC, LLB, ED. Sheila was a trailblazer her whole life, indomitable with class and elegance. She was an avid equestrian who loved her competitions as well as her rides with the family. "Scotty" attended St. Hilda's School for Girls and Havergal College (Toronto). Without her parents' knowledge, Sheila scrubbed planes to attain her pilot's license in 1947 (soloing in a Tiger Moth in four hours), and then worked with the Chinook Flying Service.

Sheila became a CWAC and then a WREN. While an Air Traffic Control Officer (Sub-Lt.) at CFB Shearwater, NS, she met Lt. Cmdr. RN David J.H. Davis, marrying in July 1955 at Christ Church, Calgary. Soon after, Sheila accompanied David to his military posting in N. Ireland, and upon their return to Calgary, she worked for CFCN Television as a current affairs panellist. At 40, and with a young family to care for, she completed a B.A. at U of C in 1974. After law school and receiving a Criminal Justice Diploma, she became a stockbroker with Bache/Burns Fry. Sheila was also a lifelong volunteer with board positions on the SSAFA, Junior League, Horseman's Hall, Vancouver Aquarium, Vancouver Ballet, Naval Museum (Tecumseh), NOAC, RUSI, and Corps of Commissionaires in Victoria. She also maintained memberships at the Glencoe Club, Ranchmen's Club, and the Calgary Golf & Co. Club for many years and was proud to be an Honorary Member of The Calgary Highlanders. Post retirement, Sheila settled in Victoria in 1992 and enjoyed playing bridge with both her Oakdale Estate friends and the Newcomers' Club. She so appreciated everyone's support in her successful battle against cancer in 1997.

Her lifelong pal, sister and soulmate, Sydney Turner, predeceased Sheila in 2011. Sheila will be lovingly missed by her children Chris (Mirella), Stuart (Katharine), Leslie, granddaughter Madeleine, brother Fred L. Scott (Billie) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sheila will be interred in "God's Acre" (Veterans' Cemetery) in Esquimalt alongside her father and younger brother, P/O James B. Scott (d.1954).

Bravo Zulu, Mom! We love you and will miss you always.
