Ron White

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald “Ron” Arthur White of Eastern Passage on March 1, 2016 at the age of 90 years at Willow Hall, Dartmouth. He was the only child of the late Allan and Grace (Mackie) White.

Ron served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders during World War II, earning the France-Germany star, 1939-1945 War Medal and the CVSM and Clasp. He was discharged on July 9th, 1946 and served with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for a short time and returned to the DND in December, 1953 as a civilian driver, becoming the unit's VIP driver in 1975. Ron received many commendations and awards due to his professionalism and dignitaries would request him by name whenever they had occasion to return to the base. After more than 41 years of service, Ron retired on Jan.26, 1995 to spend more time with his family, which included his beloved pets, and relax at the bowling alley or on the golf course.

Ron was a big baseball and hockey fan, and followed the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs as well as our own Halifax Mooseheads. He also enjoyed meeting up with his friends at the local Tim's for a coffee and some story-telling.

Ron is survived by his wife Clara Evelyn (Lacelle), sons Donald Elliott (Anne), Ralph Edward (Lynn), and daughter Colleen Patricia White-LaBelle (Ken), grandchildren Dylan and Natasha (Brad), and great-grandson Brody. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday March 6 in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street Dartmouth. A funeral service to be held 11am Monday, March 7 at St. Peters Anglican Church 346 Cow Bay Road Eastern Passage, Rev. John Ferguson officiating. Reception to follow at Atlantic Funeral Homes. Interment will be at a later date in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peters Anglican Church or a charity of choice. Ron’s family would like to thank the staff and residents at Willow Hall for their amazing care and friendship during his stay.
