Harold Spencer “Spike” Allen, C.D. (Capt. Ret’d)

ALLEN, Harold Spencer “Spike” C.D. (Capt. Ret’d) ~ Age 80, of Tremont, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on December 26, 1938, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harold Francis and  Violet Edna (Turner) Allen. Spike had served for 37 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force starting his career as an air frame technician and soon after becoming a flight engineer. He had posting at bases in Rivers, Manitoba, Halifax, Ottawa, and Greenwood. Spike was very proud of the Flight Engineer trade and was a crew member on the last flight of the Argus aircraft. He had in excess of 10,000 hours of flight time, receiving the Canadian Decoration, retiring with the rank of Captain and was a member of V.P.I. Spike was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed anytime spent outdoors. In retirement he enjoyed a career as an agent for Remax/Banner real estate where many clients became friends. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Carole Clark; sister, Judy (Paul) Duncan, Halifax; sons, Shawn (Melanie) Allen, Windsor, Ont.; Douglas (Marie-Ellen) Allen, Greenwood; grandchildren, Stephanie, Lauren, Chelsea and Ewan; sister-in-law, Brenda Allen, Falmouth; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Daniel Allen; brothers, Owen in infancy and brother Donald Allen.
