It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Slor, age 71, following a short illness. John was the beloved husband of Sandra (Harvey); cherished father of children, Krista (Sandy) MacPherson and John David Slor; much-loved brother of Kathy Murray. He is also survived by sister, Anna (Robert) Saari; and five nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Slor; and sister, Etty Slor. He came to Canada from Holland on the ship Volendam in 1951 through Pier 21. John had a 22-year career with the Royal Canadian Navy - Fleet Air Arm until he retired as a PO2 in 1985. He was passionate about singing in choirs, most recently with You Gotta Sing. He loved driving any vehicle he could get behind the wheel of, including NASCAR, semitrucks and F1 type vehicles; but especially his 1962 Volvo. He enjoyed many roles with Bedford Players and many other volunteer activities including Abenaki Aquatic Club. John was always working in his garden. He enjoyed camping with Krista and her husband during which he discovered a great affinity for s’mores. He had many fine qualities. He was kind and generous and could be counted on to always help out someone in need and could fix almost anything. John had a quick sense of humour and was always early for everything.
